Busy Bees layout using The Wild Hare kits (04.11.17)

Good morning bloggers

This is a different kind of post to what you would normally expect from me! I only went and got myself a kit!! I never thought I'd do that but The Wild Hare Kits are no ordinary kits! They are tailor made just for you so no risk of getting pretty girly cute stuff if that's not your thing! It's not!!

I am very pleased with my kit and will easily find a use everything chosen for me. The binder clips will be the trickiest items to use.

I didn't hold back with my first layout and definitely wasn't frugal. I used three full 12x12 sheets of cardstock here! I absolutely couldn't wait to get started!

From my kit:

Bazzill Sugar Wafer Ombre cardstock

Echo Park Once Upon a Time Great Hall cardstock

Pink Fresh Studio Boys Fort Thumbs Up cardstock

Pink Fresh Studio Escape the Ordinary leatherette alpha stickers

Camera paper clip

2 flair badges

From my stash:

Tim Holtz tiny attacher staples
Heidi Swapp color shine gold
Impress poppy red dye ink pad
Dear Lizzy roller phrase stamp
Christmas words stamp

The Great Hall cardstock is my absolute favourite item from the kit. The alpha stickers and flair badges are pretty darn cool, too!

This layout is to be the first layout in my Christmas 2017 album! Whoop Whoop! I'm going large this year and doing a 12x12 album, as last year I filled two extra wide 6x8 albums to bursting! I shall be doing a mixture of layouts, pocket pages and add-ins.

Thanks for looking, stay wild and Merry Christmas!

Dont stash your Stash series Have a happy ... layout (03.09.17)

Good evening bloggers

This weekend I've been catching up with Project Life but I've managed to create a couple of layouts, too!

This layout has been in the pipeline for seven years! I always knew I would create a layout with these photos but, until now, hadn't gotten around to it! I've been inspired by a recent carousel layout created by Mercy Tiara on YouTube. The composition of this layout is also partly inspired by Shimelle.

I've dug deep into my stash and used some older papers here. The purple 12x12 is AC Primaries. The patterned 12x12 is AmyTan Sketchbook 2012 and the bunting paper is AC Dear Lizzy 2010.

I've added a homemade flag.

The alphas are from Home Bargains UK.

The Prima metal stars are pretty much my all time favourite embellishment!

A little bit of stamping and some Heidi Swapp color shine to finish off.

I'm very pleased to have created this layout. It's been on my mind since my early days of scrapbooking. Any Elvis fans out there will "get" the title!!

Thanks for looking.

Don't stash your stash series - West Wind layout (29.08.2017)

Good afternoon bloggers

Today's layout uses lots of scraps and a very old piece of Simple Stories Say Cheese 12x12 cardstock.

It's a simple layout but it packs a visual punch!

I have to confess to using some new purchases on this layout. My stash has been very much depleted this year and I've added to it here and there recently.

The metal leaf embellies, the glitter alpha stickers and the wood veneer house are all new to my stash.

I've used a white gel pen for the journalling and a roller phrase stamp for the date.

The title comes from the name of the boat in the Elvis movie Girls Girls Girls.

Thanks for looking.

Don't stash your Stash series "Lubbock High School" layout (26.04.2017)

Good evening bloggers

Here is another layout for my Don't stash your Stash series. This layout incorporates many of my favourite elements of my personal scrapbooking style.

It's a clean grid style layout, my signature style. Other than bright and bold, the only other style I really like is a vintage/1950s colour scheme and this is shown here.

Of course, everything came from my stash and there are six elements that would not be intended for scrapbooking. Even I wouldn't have thought that I could incorporate that many into one layout!!

I do like a simple layout with the photo and/or title telling the story and don't always include separate journalling as is the case here.

The two 12x12 background sheets are Coredinations. I've added some card ephemera, a Kraft banner, punched stars, Tim Holtz letter stickers, AC Thickers and gems.

The six non scrapbooking items are the vintage postcard, book pages, gingham jam pot covers, doilies, badges and "glasses" brooch.

I originally purchased four of those "glasses" brooches from a jewellery shop with the absolute intention of using them on Buddy Holly layouts! I've had them for many years and three are now on layouts and the fourth is in my jewellery box!!

HELEN'S CRAFTY TIP: Don't forget to look in your scraps box for suitable paper and card when starting a new project. Once you've cut into that scrap don't put it back again. After all, it's been put in there once anyway. Grab your favourite punches or dies and use it up straightaway. I like to punch tags, small circles, stars and hearts.

Thanks for looking.

Don't stash your Stash series (cheat edition!) "Eric Morecambe" (23.04.2017)

Good evening bloggers

Here is the latest layout in my Don't stash your Stash series. I have to confess to having cheated a little bit here as the chipboard alpha stickers are a 2017 acquisition!

However, they were a gift from my mum so I didn't actually buy them!!

The yellow 12x12 sheet is from the Coredinations Roy G. Biu. cardstock pack. The other cardstock is from Simple Stories Say Cheese. I've cut down one 12x12 sheet and used three sections. I also punched out the stars from the same sheet.

The chipboard alphas are from The Little Craft Company. Oh boy, that hashtag drove me crazy! It doesn't look quite right no matter how I place it!!

I've printed the song lyrics from the internet.

The date stamp is a Dear Lizzy phrase date stamp and I've stamped this using the Brilliance Moonlight White pigment ink pad.

I've added some gems.

I resisted the temptation to keep adding to this layout. I had thought about stamping some stars or suns on the yellow space but in the end I just wanted it to be bright, bold and simple.

It was a dull day and the photos are dark but the layout is bright and bold!

This is a very simple but effective layout created from just two sheets of 12x12, some alphas and gems. I think it could be a favourite of mine!

Thanks for looking, sorry I cheated! I'm sure you'll agree that those alphas were made for this layout!

Don't stash your Stash series "Mud Wellies" (06.04.2017)

Good evening bloggers

Oh boy, I've really dug into my stash for this layout!

The background 12x12 is from the AC Primaries pack and the other 12x12 is from the WRMK 2007 White Out Collection called Explore - Hubcap.

I've added card ephemera, PL cards, a tag plus layering card and handmade paper from my scrap box. There are some BoBunny Happy Tail Dog journalling cards.

I've added wood veneers, a flair badge, a Dress It Up beach themed piece, brads, buttons, a gem, a magnet clip, ric rac ribbon, twine and thread.

Theres plenty of stamping and I've added some Tim Holtz Chit Chat word stickers.
The ink splatters are Dylusions melted chocolate spray ink.

Almost everything on this layout is stash that was just waiting to be used! Lots of odds and ends and bits and bobs of leftover pieces.

I've managed to get two more titles here from two older alphabet sticker packs.

I think I'm the only person ever to struggle to use the Tim Holtz word stickers but I'm really making an effort with those!

Thanks for looking.

Don't stash your Stash series "The Twist Kid" layout (31.03.2017)

Good morning bloggers

Another layout in my series and this time I've brought out the big guns!

There are certain layouts that create much emotion and this is one of those layouts for me! Music is very important in my life and, in particular, the music of Billy Fury. This photo was taken in the City of Liverpool, the birthplace of Billy, and it's where he's remembered with this statue in his honour.

The hard to use item on this layout is the 12x12 background card from the 2009 DCWV The Mod-Retro Stack. As beautiful as it is, the preprinted wording on this card needed to be relevant to the story. I've finally settled on a photo and story that deserve such a beautiful background card!

I've taken on a recent Shimelle challenge here to make stamping a feature on a layout. I think this Hero Arts Music Star stamp is perfect for adding interest to this layout and making a feature of the blank space.

I've created some layering with my card scraps, some card ephemera and some Project Life cards. I've used my large circle punch to create a little cluster from scraps.

The title has been created using DoCrafts Papermania Persimmon alphabet stickers.

The added texture is wood veneer pieces, an enamel dot and a brad.

I punched out a music note from silver card and I've have added several of those pesky Tim Holtz word stickers.

I've used Dear Lizzy, Amy Tangerine and October Afternoon phrase stamps inked with Distress Ink Dusty Concord and the journalling has been written using the Purple Star Sakura Gelly Roll pen.

HELEN'S CRAFTY TIP: If you are clumsy and impatient like me and get ink on your beautiful layout you can usually find a way to fix this. Look closely at the middle star and you will see that it's been stamped on a different paper and cut out. Its covering a rather large unintentional ink splodge! Try to be more patient than me!

Thanks for looking. If you like what you see why not add my blog to your followed blogs. I'd be glad to have you!

Don't stash your Stash series "Mum and Me" layout (30.03.2017)

Good afternoon bloggers

Another layout created using just my older stash in my Don't stash your Stash series.

I very rarely struggle to come up with a title for my layouts. The title is usually the first thing that springs to mind. However, I struggled with this one as I've created a few layouts from this weekend visiting my parents, so it's just a simple title!!

The green 12x12 sheet is from the AC Primaries set and the 12x12 leaf sheet is from the Amy Tangerine Sketchbook pad  (2012).

I've added layers using a Becky Higgins Project Life card, a jam making tag with eyelet, some card scraps and some My Mind's Eye Wild Asparagus collection 12" strips.

The title is stamped using the 2006 Stampendous Retro Alphabet set. I've also used a phrase stamp and a heart stamp from my stash.

I've added a rare touch (for me!) of mixed media here with the Sainsbury's (UK) Get Creative Poster Paint in green.

The stickers are called Woodland Folk.

Added texture comes with the thread and ribbon.

I've added journaling using a gel pen.

HELEN'S CRAFTY TIP: be on the lookout for items that aren't specifically created for scrapbooking such as this jam making tag and the children's stickers and poster paint. These can often be cheaper and also help to make your work more unique.

Thanks for looking. If you like what you see why not add my blog to your followed blogs. I'd be glad to have you.

Don't stash your Stash series "Rosliston Forest" layout 30.03.2017)

Good afternoon bloggers

Another layout created using just my older stash.

I've used a blue 12x12 sheet from the AC Primaries cardstock pack and a 12x12 sheet from the Amy Tangerine Sketchbook pad (2012). I've added layering using the 6x6 DCWV The Juniper Berry Stack. The 6x6 pad was a competition prize.

The polka dot East of India paper chains are the hard to use item here. I love them but have always struggled to use them on a layout until recently.

I've added card ephemera and scraps for layering.

The title had been created using the wooden alphabet from The Works.

I've used brads from my stash and a blue stripey clip not really intended for scrapbooking. The clip was a gift.

For extra interest and texture I've added wood veneer butterflies, a bird paper clip, buttons, thread and ink splatters.

I've used a punch to create the journalling tag and I've added an eyelet and some ribbon. The journaling has been written using a blue felt tip pen.

The word stickers are Tim Holtz chitchat and I really have to try hard to use those as I do struggle with them!

HELEN'S CRAFTY TIP: invest in a good quality card safe punch that has multiple uses. With this tag punch, I can create journaling cards, decorative elements and layering plus I'll never have to buy a gift tag again!

Thanks for looking. If you like what you see why not add my blog to your followed blogs. I'd be glad to have you.

Don't stash your Stash series "Wood Thief" layout (30.03.2017)

Good afternoon bloggers

I'm continuing with my Don't stash your Stash series with this layout.

I've used a blue 12x12 sheet from the Core'dinations Vintage Collection Reminisce pad and a 12x12 sheet from the My Mind's Eye Jubilee Tangerine collection called Awesome. Both these papers have been in my stash for several years.

I've added layers using scraps.

The journalling card is a Becky Higgins Project Life card. This was gifted to me.

The title has been created using a wooden alphabet set from The Works. I'm pleased to have gotten another title from this set. It's one of my favourite products from 2016.

The wagon wheels are Trimcraft wooden elements. Although I really like them, I had been struggling to find a way to use them so am pleased they fit in so well on this layout. I added brads and a sequin from my older stash.

I've also added some thread for added texture and some ink splatters using Shimmer Magic Aqua Lagoon.

I used my October Afternoon "Summer" catchphrase stamp with Distress Ink "Broken China". The journalling has been written using a Sharpie pen and a gel pen.

All these techniques get me using stuff from my stash!!

HELEN'S CRAFTY TIP: I like to use recycled cardboard boxes for raising elements from the page, it's free and it helps the environment! Everyone's a winner!!

Thanks for looking. If you like what you see why not add my blog to your followed pages? I'd be glad to have you!

Don't stash your Stash series - Just being me (21.03.2017)

Good evening bloggers

I've managed to bash my stash for another layout!

The 12x12 sheet is from the WRMK 2010 "Vintage Blue" collection called Butterfly Kisses.

I've added layering from my stash, some Anita's vellum and card ephemera.

The difficult to use items here are the fox peg (I've removed the peg), the bulldog clip and the rarely used Magic Mesh. I've also added a not meant for scrapbooking item in the form of the Wild & Free magnetic clip.
I've added extra texture with the crimped card, wood butterfly, gems and thread. I altered the fox and the butterfly with Promarkers.

Thanks for looking.

Don't stash your Stash series - Woodland Selfie (19.03.2017)

Good morning bloggers

Here is another layout from my Don't stash your Stash series.

I've used a 12x12 sheet of WRMK card from the "72 & Sunny" collection dated 2010. It's called June. There is some layering here using papers from the Cosmo Cricket The Boyfriend 6x6 pad from 2009 and card from my scraps box. I've added in some more recent card ephemera.

I've added a wood veneer wheel and inked it using Stazon. I've had difficulty coming up with ways to use those so am pleased with that.

I've used a flower stamp which doesn't very often see an ink pad.

The gems and brads had to be dusted off!

I've added some thread from my sewing box.

I've managed to get another title out of the Thickers which were a Christmas present last year.

I'm really pleased with using another sheet of that WRMK card which was probably one of my first scrapbooking purchases.

Thanks for looking.

Don't stash your Stash series - Trespassers! layout (16.03.2017)

Good afternoon bloggers

Here's another layout using stuff from my stash.

My first thoughts when creating this layout were that I wanted the title to appear on a signpost! I was going to stencil the title but changed my mind.

The 12x12 sheet is from the DoCrafts Papermania Happy Days collection. The 12" strips are from the 2009 Trimcraft My Mind's Eye Wild Asparagus collection. The stickers are Daily Flash October Afternoon.

I've made a dent in my brad collection and I've added acetate, thread and twine for texture.

I've used a mini alpha stamp set, a date stamp and a roller phrase stamp.

I've punched the circles and tags from scraps and acetate. The title alphas are DoCrafts Persimmon sticker and stamp sets.

Most of the items on this layout have been in my stash for many years. The newest items are the Card ephemera pieces, the stickers and the roller phrase stamp.

I'm really pleased to have made a further dent in my older stash for this layout.

Thanks for looking.

Pool Party (10.03.2017)

Good afternoon bloggers

This layout is inspired by Shimelle's recent video using 6x6 paper pads.

I've used several sheets from an older K&Co. pad called Hopscotch. I also raided my scrap paper stash for layering.

I've added lots of beach themed ephemera.

Thanks for looking.

1034 Audubon Drive (09.03.2017)

Good afternoon bloggers

It's a lovely afternoon here on the Isle of Wight and I hope it's the same where you are!

This layout is another creation for my Don't stash your Stash project and it's also my entry for the Mercy Tiara 27 Day Challenge this month as it fits in nicely with that.

It's always a cause for celebration when you get to go to a pool party at Elvis' house! The wallpaper is original from when Elvis lived there in the 50s. I might not have been camera ready for this one but oh what a memory!!!

I've used lots of older stash here including those 1950s card ephemera pieces, the flower sticker and button, the small buttons, the metal camera & key and the wooden musical notes.

The newest items used are the Thickers and the wooden alphabet.

I've stamped the background and the wooden alphabet.

Thanks for looking.

My "Don't stash your Stash" series! The Great Escape (08.03.2017)

Good afternoon bloggers and welcome to my "Don't stash your Stash" series!

I thought I would create some layouts using items from my stash that don't get dusted off very often and items that I've found difficult to work with even though I bought them because I really liked them! I also want to use items that have been in my stash for a long time.

I've used the Card Candi many times before but mostly on cards so I thought I'd create a title using these. I used one of my trusty classroom alphabet stencils to pencil the title in first and then used foam dots to raise the Card Candi a little. This took a long time! I also used one of my mini alphabet stamp sets.

I chose these paper strips from My Minds Eye. I've had these for a long time and never seem to get them on a layout. I bought the metal clips as I love paper clips but struggled with using these. I chopped the clip bit off and used them as faux flair/brads! Voila!!

I've used up some handmade paper from my scrap box.

I love digging into my stash to make sure I use what I have. I'm getting a real kick this year from not buying new stash and challenging myself to create layouts using the stash that I already have.

So far, I've created 21 layouts plus some Project Life pages. Whoop whoop.

If you would like to see more of my layouts you can find me over on Instagram as helenrockabillygirl.

Crafty Gal update (08.03.2017)

Good afternoon bloggers!

A very belated Happy Happy Crafty New Year to you all.

Last year was my most crafty year ever. I started Project Life in May and worked on this in various formats most months.

I also did some travel albums, birthday, Easter and Christmas albums.

I took some online classes by Shimelle, Mercy Tiara and Inkie Quill. I've never taken classes before and I absolutely loved them. I didn't know how I would get along as I am definitely "a do things my way" kinda gal but I made many new layouts and am still working my way through the classes.

I reorganised the storage of my 12x12 papers into a cropper hopper basket on my desk and I've really used alot of papers I might not have otherwise used. My stash is all stored by theme as I almost always craft by theme. However, I found that I was forgetting about lots of my papers and the new system is working very well.

I invested in some new tools last year. My Canon Selphy printer is amazing and very convenient for Project Life. I bought a small guillotine trimmer and I now use that for all my trimming other than cutting down 12×12 sheets. It's great because there aren't any blades or cutting channels to replace. I also bought a fuse tool and am looking forward to using that after having practised with it a little bit already.

I am planning on a no spend 2017! Whilst my stash is not the biggest stash ever it is quite healthy. The reason for my no spend plan is that I really do enjoy using my stash and I think I will get a real kick out of being able to create throughout 2017 using stash purchased prior to the start of the year. I would like to create my own embellishments and really make a dent in my stash.

My crafty year started well with one of my layouts from last year being featured in Issue 104 of Papercrafter magazine.

Thanks for stopping by.
